Description
1974 Gulfstar 41′
Aquila
Aquila has been owned by the same owner for 29 years and is only her second owner. They purchased her to enjoy with their kids as they were growing up, now it is just the two of them and they are looking to downsize.
History notes from the owner:
“With every older boat, there is good and there is bad. With this boat, it is mostly good. The hull and rudder are perfect, the deck is solid, and the engine is magnificent. I bought the boat in 1993 from the original owner. It had blisters and some deck delamination. So I took it immediately to Mark Lennox in Rock Hall, Md., who everyone told me was the guru of blister repair. He peeled the bottom and rebuilt it all in vinylester resin. He gave me a 10 yr warranty but smiled and said “it’s jut a formality— the boat will never have another blister”. He was right. The bottom has been perfect all these years. I’ve always used good, high copper content ablative paint.
I waited on the deck repair until the end of the 1995 sailing season. That winter Lennox removed everything fastened to the deck, rebuilt the entire deck (re-cored a few areas), spray-painted everything (flawlessly), and re-installed all the hardware (adding larger winches, which have made a big difference.
