Description
1982 Chuck Paine 42′
Ithaka
Comfortable and smooth, with a knife entry that slices through waves, a long fin encapsulated lead keel and a solid skeg rudder, Ithaka sails like a dream. The cockpit has complete control with a flexible cutter rig for sail options, a boom furler for easy reefing and a full batten main delivering power and performance.
Extensive upgrades have brought her electrical and navigation systems up to 2022 standards offering the captain full awareness of the waters surrounding the vessel. Below deck, a new refrigeration unit, fresh water electric head, Force 10 three burner stove and teak interior offer comfort at anchor and safety at sea,.
Truly a rare find in the resale market, to find a traditional quality built and designed vessel which has been maintained and upgraded to the extreme level of “Ithaka”.

ACCOMODATIONS –
Naval architect Chuck Paine feels that this is about the smallest boat which can have a true owner’s cabin aft, with an aft cockpit. Rather than being just an enclosed berth, this cabin contains a seat, two bureaus and some shelves. Opposite is a wet locker and spacious galley. A large navigation station with lockers and shelves is located adjacent to the companionway. The head has a separate shower stall, and there is a seat in the forecabin. Lockers and shelves abound. In the engine room, there are tool racks and a seat for the chief engineer.
Aft of the chain locker in the fore peak is a V berth with custom memory foam mattress. Expandable settees P&S in the salon with lee cloths, and a rear quarter berth aft to port.
GALLEY –
Spacious galley is U shape to starboard of the companionway
Gimbaled Force 10 three burner stove
Isotherm refrigerator (2019)
Double stainless sinks w/ pressure H&C water
ADDITIONAL –
“Spirit of Tradition” is a term used by the yacht’s designer encompassing a balance between the natural drive to “do something better” and remain the appropriate respect for those designs who may have been even more masterly pliers of our ancient trade. The term applies loosely to sailing yachts that race in certain regattas in New England and Europe. “Ithaka” is an exceptional example of this, having been upgraded extensively with an attitude to sail the globe safely.
